anyone know what these are?

I just stumbled on one, and didnt know they existed.
so other than co.uk, net.co.uk, org.uk, there is ac.uk?
what is it supposed to stand for?

There's also me.uk for individuals, I suppose.
 
ac is academic (education)

This is the full list of .uk extensions.

For investment I wouldn't bother registering anything other than .co.uk or .org.uk :-)

You can't register .ac.uk.
There are for univesities and colleges only.

if not, r they a hard sell in the aftermarket?

1. No.
2. Depends on the domain. At a certain level of "quality" they're worth more than regfee :)
