Thanks namestrands,
Does a dictionary word make it less likely for a lawsuit at all? I'm new to the whole TM stuff. Also if the file that'd mean I'd hafta give it up if I dont want to fight right?
I appriciate this...

Academy Awards is a famous trademark and I can 99.99% bet that you would lose a UDRP Case on this; and as its a US domain, US Anti-CyberSquatting laws come in to play and that carries a fine of over $10,000 + costs.

It is a great name but if the ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES CORPORATION wanted it, you can bet they would get it as they have owned this Mark since 1977

Appologies for posting OFF TOPIC..

They could still sue you and make an example out of you, and believe me publicity is what these people desire. It can go either way really.. best case scenario, you get a Cease and Desist letter requesting that you transfer the domain over to them.

I concur - very worrying TM & UDRP issues... in fact, I feel your chances are better at developing the site and showing that you have a legitimate use for the name (that doesn't overtly infringe on their TM / IP rights) than simply offering it for sale a domain.

Nah.. I dissagree they can't sue you just CUZ.. They will ask you to give them the name and if you say no then you would be sued but they can't just take you to court for registring the name.. And if they do say ok I am sorry take the name.. case would be closed in 10 min.. And woudn't cost you anytning.. So don't worry! Offer it to them anyways say I got it.. If they want they will give you some money if no they will ask you to give it. So eather way ..
