Don't think it was snapped, from the comments on the site looks like the name just reverted back to the old owner, must have been a transfer.
I suspect someone knew this and was messing around with those $100k bids.

Can someone explain to me why this name is worth the amounts I have read? Overture is showing very low typins/searches, alexa ranking is not that high, neighter is the link popularity and its a .net? Thanks.

well its a two letter .net, and its a very very good two letter .net. Alexa and Overture are far less important than simply understanding what the domain means: Ad (as in advertisement) is extremely commercial and valuable.
