Afilias buys the .MOBI Registry for an Undisclosed Amount

Afilias, the company that (amongst others) operates the .INFO and .ORG registries has purchased the .MOBI sTLD operator, mTLD Top-Level Domain Ltd. for an undisclosed amount.

* Afilias and dotMobi are both private Irish Limited companies. As private companies, the purchase price is undisclosed.
* dotMobi is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Afilias Limited.
* Afilias is the registry operator for .INFO with a direct contract with ICANN. dotMobi, although now a subsidiary of Afilias, will continue to be the registry operator for .mobi, under contract to ICANN. The remainder of Afilias’ registry services contracts are with parties other than ICANN.

I believe that Afilias can take dotMobi in the right direction-- just look what they've done with dotInfo.

I see dotInfo in magazine advertisements here in Japan. All it would take is a partnership with dotMobi and the largest mobile provider here in Japan to put dotMobi to its intended use.
