Well, no point in continuing to try to put one over on you - you're obviously much too sharp for that. It is true - we are all newbies. In fact (and since you are good at keeping secrets I hope you won't spread this around) The DN in DNForum.com does not stand for Domain Name at all - it stands for Domain Newbie. We here at the Domain Newbie Forum were hoping someone like you would eventually find us and help us grasp the concepts of domain grabbing. Of course since you have been failing at it (prompting all of this whining about how unfair life is) I'm not sure how much enlightment you are going to be able to give us, but we are certainly all ears. :cheeky:

Don't you think $6 a domain is already enough for one company? Let's look at the numbers as they are now.

Active .com 23,723,040
Active .net 3,935,708

Netsols income off those numbers
$142,338,240 in .com
$23,614,248 in .net

And its actually a bit higher than that considering the are the registrar at roughly $35 a pop on 8,495,204 domains. But unfortunately for them their numbers are droping. :) How much do you think the registrars are making at a $1 or two a name and doing all of the work.

The way I see it Netsol should either be a registrar or the core. Pick whichever one they want to be and leave everything else alone. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how much they will profit off of this system and it doesn't take a domain guru to see it either.

I'll admit I'm a newbie to the game and not afraid to say it.

From reading your post Gary.....it seems to me that you have something to gain from WLS.....like your working for BD or ULT.....thats what I think!!

Because there is no way in h-ll we will ever see a good expiring domain in our hands again. BD and ULT will have everything.

If WLS comes around (which I think it won't)...my days of the excitment of coming home from work and looking on the computer to see if I won....the chance that I have of getting it..... that will all be gone. Every name will be gone. Boy would that be great...

OK, Einstein, back then there were still different ways to grab domains, but Snaps were taken months in advance. Now take away the options, and bring all the players to one place with a relatively cheap price - WLS. I don't recall BD owning any Snaps, but under WLS they have no choice.

Simple question: If you were BD, what would you do? Wait until WLS opens, then maybe grab a couple of hundred after breakfast?

Also i'm no way a newbie how do think i know all i do.
I haven't seen any evidence that you know anything, other than what you might find browsing the forums for a day.

They obviously own Snaps now.

I could be wrong, but back then they didn't bulk purchase Snaps, like UltSearch did.

I have read in 2 "proposals" for WLS that they will NOT be allowing scripts . That in essence you would have to "hand reg in applying for a wls " because they will shut down multiple request from automated systems (other than approved systems ! that's the interesting part ...snapnames ? ) ..if that makes any sense

Bidawinner, this is definately possible. Every computer on the internet has a mailing address (IP) that they post whenever they send something to a script. Most programming languages can pick up an IP (as an environmental variable). Too many requests from the same IP, and the script could be programmed to block it.

If we had a 1 WLS per hour per IP limit, things would be great. This idea might not make a lot of sense to businesspeople, but it would make the system appear more democratic to the politicians. The people who need to approve this system share some of our concerns about UltSearch coming along and registering 100,000 WLS's in the first tenth of a second.

Something tells me this idea might appear a little socialist for this forum. However, wouldn't it be better for business if we had 100,000 domains under development by people who really wanted them than if we had 100,000 domains registered by UltSearch remaining undeveloped?

Also i bet my money that you are someone from BD or ULT or rent your own pool 3 connections or you own pool or enom. You aren't telling us the full story your just trying to make people against WLS just so it suits you.

Whoa, just because someone's a democrat doesn't mean they're a Commy.

Almost everyone in this thread wants the same thing- less domains going to the big players (AKA UltSearch and BD) and more going to the smaller and mid-size ones (AKA most of us).

Their pockets are DEEEEEP. No more paying for registry connections the money will go into sidestepping the roadblocks.

What about non static ip addresses? Or buying 50,000 ip addresses? They're like 4k per block of 2000 per year or something like that.

Just install one of those "type in these letters" scripts that they have at PayPal or at Hotmail, and require them to type one in every time they register a WLS.

A CS professor at Carnegie Mellon proved that regardless of the scripts they're using, it is impossible for today's computers to convert those weird letters/numbers images into text. Unless UltSearch invests enough in new technology to put brain cells in computers, they will not be able to sidestep that.

As Johnny Carson would say."I did not know that."

Actually, that would change things a bit.Can you imagine how many here would be taking a couple of days off work, enlist the help of friends, pay 100 people to sit in a room with a list of names and go to town?!

All kidding aside I would consider hiring a ton of people and pay them based on the names they get a wls on.

Wonder how many people BD/ult would havedoing the same?

Well, the good news is, if they can only find 1000 people, only the 1000 best names will be taken in the first 30 seconds.

Hmm, maybe I should get a job at UltSearch for WLS opening night and hijack a few WLS's for my account. :-D

Not even the 1000! You would have to take into consideration all of the other people in the world trying to get the wls on names at they same time they were doing it.

If you get the job let me know! There are a few names I ummm need which they happen to own.:-D
