discussion AI.com at $70M, Google.com for $12, and the man who fought Nissan — wrote it all up

Hey all,

A few stories I never get tired of:

• AI.com just became the biggest domain sale on record at $70 million, more than double Voice.com's $30M
• In 2015 a guy bought Google.com for $12 through Google's own registrar before they caught it
• Uzi Nissan fought Nissan Motor for years over nissan.com, and the courts let him keep it

I put these and a lot more into a free site, DomainNams.com: record sales, domain legends, the first domains ever registered, the ICANN story, plus practical guides and tools (name score checker, investment calculator, WHOIS lookup).

Record sales: https://domainnams.com/record-domain-sales/
Legends: https://domainnams.com/domain-legends/
Everything else: https://domainnams.com/community/

Who did I miss on the legends page? Drop names below and I'll add them.

David

The Google.com story is funny now, but I bet the registrar team wasn't laughing when that $12 order went through.

It's like when I bought buzz.buzz on Google Domains and then it was mysteriously refunded and taken out of my account.
