Wow - I don't claim to be an expert on all things internet, but I was amazed how many of the top 19 sites I was unfamiliar with:
live.com
baidu.com
rapidshare.com
qq.com
hi5.com

I couldn't tell you what any of these sites is about, but each of them gets more traffic than eBay (#20)!

live.com - Microsoft Version of Search Engine
baidu.com - A chinese search engine.. It beats Google in China for search Engine market. Yup people in china use Baidu and google ;)
rapidshare.com - A place where almost all the piracy, warez, movies, is stored..
qq.com - Dunno what this is..
hi5.com - It is a social network site..

..:: peace ::..
Jeba

qq.com - Dunno what this is..

Tencent QQ, the leading IM service provider in China. Was named OICQ which stands for Oriental ICQ. It changed to QQ due to trademark infringement of ICQ. :)

yeah,,thanks owntag, Didn't know this. Will spread it around. Cheers

I almost bought the list from damn a few weeks ago. So happy I did not. It's a couple grand. I would have been so upset had I did to then see it for free.

Just don't make more typos of my sites please :D

thats incredible thank you soooo much.

thanks owntag! That is great!

By the way, if anyone needs the huge file splitted into smaller files (as excel only opens a MAX 65535 lines, so there will be ~935k domains missing!), send me a PM.

Wordpad will definately open this. I believe Excel 2007 limits the rows to 1 million now.

I opened it in Word, too, but it took a while to paginate. :)

Thanks for the list :)
I tried to open this in notepad but my computer said "out of memory" at row nr. 519169 :D
I have 512 mb ram.

Very much appreciated. For those who have problem to open this file I use Scintilla Text Editor, and it is ok.

I had several sites in alexa top million that were all nonpaid.
???

Alexa stats are far too flaky to make this useful.

Probably OK for the top 100, and probably reasonable if you consider only the US market. Beyond that complete joke.

Hmm.. I can open ok with Excel but seems like this is the old list. I wish they would publish a recent 3 month update list. That would be nice/

The stats at Alexa are getting better. I remember the rankings for DNF, SP, DP were in the hundreds and thousands.. those stats were jokes. Even now, it is inflated for webmaster/technology related sites but not as much as before. For webmaster/tech, maybe someone should multiple by 5 or 10. For Example, DNF is around 22000, then it should be ranked between 100,000 to 200,000. Just a guess of course.

Just use common sense when looking at the stats though it is a good starting guide and does offer some insight.

owntag, thanks...great find.

Let me see if I can add some value also. A few random thoughts:

These are obviously popular sites because people find them useful and they satisfy some online need/demand of their users. That is key. Once you can isolate what is in demand on the web you can begin to offer it as well with your existing businesses or even create a new business to cater to that demand.

Also when you see sites like yahoo.co.jp , google.de , and google.co.in near the top of the list, your belief that these countries are creating a huge online presence is confirmed even more...this would also seem to bode well for cctld's and "country centric" web sites.

etc...etc...

HI All

Thanks for sharing... any one else got ideas on how to use this list.. to profit from.. please post your ideas.. I would like to hear them

Thx
Tom
