Sorry to burst your bubble, but Alexa is possibly the most inacurrate thing I have ever seen in my life. The most important thing domain newbies can learn about Alexa is to use it very sparingly, if at all.

Ok so how " off " are they ?

For instance I have a domain ranked nearly 500,000 or 500 uniques a a day perdicted by alexa. I havent parked it yet but curious, what is expected. Can it be such a bad estimation it saddens me...lol

Alexa is based on searches in their toolbar, so its completely inacurate. One of my websites receives 3000 uniques a day and has 400.000 ranking in Alexa...and I know other sites that receives only 500 uniques and their are on the top 100.000 ranking.

There is software that will get you higher up the Alexa rank using fake proxy traffic so I never take any notice of Alexa as it can be easily manipulated.

I will say this...if you are looking to buy a site and the owner says it gets 1000 uniques per day but the Alexa rank is 3,500,000 you should be very cautious.

However, I have a site that gets 100 uniques per day which ranks at around 90,000 and a site that gets 600 uniques per day which ranks 2,200,000.

Alexa only acts as a guideline and not pure truthful doctrine. Just be cautious about it but this is not to mean that it is totally unreliable--for good names in most cases their rankings are correct.

Here is my experience. Two years ago...we received 40.000 uniques monthly and we were at around 80.000 rank...

Now we have at least 100.000 uniques and are around 300.000 rank!!.

This is only one example I can give....

Alexa is not good at all.

Ive seen one major domain owner that ties all his domains together somehow and they all get the same alexa rank it was like 1k something, dont remmember which domainer it was but definately should just be use as a guide

I just released a new site www.linkdirectory.com and it is getting around 250-300 visitors per day now.. and the alexa rank is at 240,000 I think it will get to around 30,000-40,000 in the next few months and also I perdict that the google PR will get to a 5-6 in the next few months

And the site will only be 1-3 months old once I reach these goals..

it is all done with word of month and by posting to forums and yes I am using adwords...

I hope you will reach your goal pal.
I'm not relying on alexa as well.
You're right they're inacurate.
