All this non-sense at Pool, plus Snap's new format, means that Snap is now back from the dead. Do you agree? Snap seems to be doing much better now.

Well, they deserve it. They were supposed to have been given the WLS assignment, ICANN screwed them royal on that one.

"Isn't there a private consipiracy

forum out there for the top auction

bidders to collaberate on auctions?

Like 'I'll won't bid on this one if

you don't bid on that one"

-------------

Actually (and ironically) it is called

a pool by antique dealers. Bidders that are loyal to

each other form a pool and agree that

whomever wins an auction

then puts the domain name up for bid in their

own private auction with all pool members there, ususally in person for antique dealers but a phone or chat room would work fine for domainers.

Here's how it would work: (keep in

mind this is illegal in most

states...if you are caught and if you

are prosecuted for damages. Also, if the auctioneer discovers the pool, all members would be banned from the auction house/site.)

Pool members/friends A and B and C and D decide not to bid

against each other in an auction. Say

B does the bidding and gets a name

for $100. (Of course B could be outbid by an outside bidder).

B then puts the domain in

the pool. A, C, D and even the "owner" B do a "give and

take" to buy the name from B.

Each bidder then states their desired interest in the name.

For example:

A says "I'll take/buy the name plus $50.

C says "I'll take/buy the name plus $75.

D says "I'm out"

B says "I'll sell the name and give $100 more to the pool.

Bidding would continue until underbidders don't want to beat high bid just like a regular auction.

B is the high bidder and winner of the domain for $200. His $100 he paid for the name plus $100 to the pool so then A, C and D would get $33 from B.

If B was not interested to outbid C, then C would have won the name from the pool giving B his $100 and another $25. A and D would also get $25 from the winner C.

This process works because the underbidders actually get money from the highest bidder and there is less bidding frenzy so the high bidder usually doesn't have to pay too much.

Everyone is happy, except for the auctioneer.

The key to a successful pool is loyalty to each other and active member bidders. If D always says I'm out and never grabs a domain or bids in the pool, he is just there for the ride and will be kicked out.

I'm not saying I want to start a pool.

I'm just describing how auction pools work.
