Pentatonic. Take a major 'C' root (any octave) and play all the back/forward five black notes downwards and upwards. Chinese music. Just like that example. You can apply that to any Chinese music.

I spent a year in college as a music education major (minored in theatre) plus many performing bands (high school and college orchestra, pit orchestra, jazz band, pep band, community bands...).

I even did an arrangement of "Live and Let Die" for Jazz band.
