Verisign's DNAME mapping solution incorporates full IDN.IDN concept.

Yes, unfortunately the anti-IDN brigade have put out a lot of conflicting and confusing information on IDN.IDN, which is essentially only going to be a more user friendly way of presenting IDN.com, it is highly unlikely that in most instances, it will actually involve a separate registration, and certainly not for dot Com.

These are actually typed-in although with like 2% supported browser penetration and not much content to go at things are still a bit low key. That should change when IE 7 is rolled out by Auto Update probably before end of September. Anyway, here is a Namedrive screen shot.

When people have more options.... I don't think they will pay big $$$$ for IDN domain names. There is no Must have IDN domains as people have alternative options. People will still pay for traffic highly traffic IDN names but in terms of "domain value" it would be trivial

FYI - Their example ベリサイン.com (xn--eck7a3gwc3b.com) is pronounced "Verisign.com" and resolves to Verisign's Japanese website. And it was registered November 2000.

I was a longtime skeptic of IDNs, but since various improvements were made to the standards / implementations of IDNs, such as language tags, they are looking very promising now...

Many IDNs already have decent OVT with extension scores ... and yes, much of those scores are real based on actual traffic being received; search results in google, etc.

As already pointed out, many IDN extensions, such as for .com, will simply be mapped to their respective traditional extensions; no additional IDN registrations needed.

They have umpteen different options in the States, which are all used, but there is only one dot Com.

I have never chosen a language tag for my names... You don't have ppl choosing Spanish for spanish domains do you? A native can tell what language they're typing in.

I don't think they have any relevance.

Language tags have long been a source of debate. Many have required with the setting set to Afrikaans, the default at Domainsite.com.

It would, however, seem that whilst these are used to help determine legitimate registrations, they are not actually recorded.

No, but I was influential in Domainsite becoming the favoured site for IDNers.

I had ASCII domains registered all around the World thanks to the drop services. I needed to decide where to consolidate them. I needed the best compromise between low cost and good interface. I chose Domainsite. I later convinced them of the benefit of integrating a punycode converter into their registration process. The rest is history, although they have continued to provide further IDN support including a Whois that works straight from the Unicode. Perhaps not the cheapest, but Domainsite.com is definitely the best for IDN. My loyalties are purely based on my own commericial interests, but I have no financial stake in either Name.com or Domainsite.com.

How? Many people in Korea for example have been regging their names at Cypack or Domainsite.

I knew from the start domainsite did IDN regs... THey are owned by Name.com, a huge company. They aren't small by any means.

You assume that you know the most as you hold the most IDN registrations. Sorry buddy alot of people have been following up on the development for at least a year or two.

I also have connections to higher ups at a few registrars.
