Hello, just saw this thread.
Yes, kimo is a TM and now belongs to Yahoo-Taiwan, so I think if you do something on it could make you in trouble :( ( I am not so sure but Yahoo, you know....)
IMHO.

no, kimo is not a word but a "sounds good" man-made word in Taiwan, actually it is an alternative of a Japanese word "kimochi"(means mood in Japanese I think), and to most of the Taiwanese, kimo sounds good and is very easy to remember, that's it .
So we do have a very different domain strategy from Westerner. :-D

I'm just curious, since in spoken Chinese (Mandarin), the word "strange" should sound like "qi" (or "chi") instead of "ki" (as in Cantonese!); or is it a Taiwanese dialect (Taiyu) pronunciation?

I don't know exactly, but I believe it is only a TM for internet portal becasue KIMO is not a common word for us to use, can't be a TM for EVERYTHING.
If you use it in other way rather than a portal-like website, maybe yahoo-taiwan won't come to you with any trouble? Yahoo-taiwan has been converting visitors and users to www.yahoo.com.tw and redirects kiom.com.tw to yahoo.com.tw since they've merged kimo.com.tw a couple years ago, so I think yahoo MIGHT NOT be care much about the KIMO brand. It is just my thought.
But who knows? IT IS YAHOO after all 8-)g

I think the Chinese of KIMO they are using now is not a 100% pronunciation of what kimo SHOULD be, yes, we usually use "chi" as "strange", not "ki", but you know, it is easy to speak out and remember, that's enough :ok:
