This happened with all of the domains I attempted to grab in my batch today. I was testing LLLL.com's because we have bumped in the speed significantly for our next upgrade.

In any event, Snatcher saw nearly all of these domains become available the fraction of the second they dropped (note the timestamps). So then after they were determined to be available, Dynadot API was called to make the registration. Dynadot did not yet see the domains as available (presumably because they are caching their WHOIS results).

Has anyone notice this type of behavior from them?

Can anyone recommend the FASTEST registrar for API registration calls?

Dynadot is undergoing upgrades. After making their API available to all for free, there is a linear connections per cost per member spending formula in effect. Eg, if Dynadot has 100 connections per minute, they will offer the most connections to the members that spend the most money in the last year. There are users who use the dropking.com software and are prefunding their accounts $50 daily before the drop window or whatever their catch quantity is estimated. These users rarely see errors because they are catching & spending accordingly and got the wheel rolling. Dynadot is expected to add more registrar connections to their API system within two months - this should benefit the users who are not cycling via prefunding & catching expiring domains and plan to simply catch domains off luck. It doesn't make sense to me why you guys would try to check whois on the same domain you are catching.. All whois is cached info & you are shooting yourself in the foot wasting valuable time! There are no restrictions on Dynadot's API that would prevent you from registering a domain so no need to check whois.

"Daily Spend" or "yearly spend" total are two different variables... The API depends on your "yearly" spend. I have $1000+ spend in mine and I still get issues with these types of scripts. It doesn't matter how much the current balance you currently have in your account is as they only care about your yearly culmulative spending.


P.S. - I have used both companies products (snatcher/dropking) and they're pretty good.

I think that dynadot api is now working better than year ago.

I wrote some custom server side drop catching software recently, that uses several different APIs in parallel. I can honestly say that Dynadot is by far the worst of the bunch when it comes to trying to drop catch.

Overall, the API is really clean and easy to work with. But it's just not responsive enough to handle high volume registration requests for competitive names.
