Domain Name: English Domain Names for non-E countries

Message:
Would that be interesting to buy domainname.fr, or gasprices.fr ? I mean, the french people are not very good in english, and they would not type an english name for a query. Would that get Traffic anyway, and to know a bit more about the interest, should i have a look at Overture Keyword in english, or in french? Thanks for the replies.

I had been told 'No' and that this would just lead to sadness. I personally tried it and got no traffic. Don't make the same mistake.

I would say it also depends on the name and the use you want to make of the domain name. I have a decent traffic on my mobileshop.fr, even it is completely English. Simply because magasindemobiles.fr is much more complicated and doesn't really sound good. It would be very good to buy domainname.fr, but it might cost quite a lot of money. I registered students.fr, why not? perfect for a forum for international students studying in France or looking to study in France. Be creative :)

i would tend to think that there is only good value for those type of domains that have a very common English word such as power / love / games etc.. such a word as gasprices is probably not of high value here

Things are never as black & white as people will lead you to believe in anything, that applies to domains also. In some countries, especially France & Spain there are literally millions of English people living there, let alone many other nations that have English as a second language. I believe it can work with a little marketing. i.e Imagine you are selling land in France. Ideally you would want Terrain.com or Terrain.Fr
These are obviously gone. If you can get Land.fr then I imagine a lot of people will type it in anyway & if you had for sale boards with land.fr, it's not even hard for non-english speakers to remember
I don't think it's as straight forward to register a .fr as other endings. Good Luck
