The 2004 Housing Act created the powers for the UK Government to introduce a requirement for sellers of homes to provide a Home Information Pack (HIP) for purchasers. The Government has now announced that HIPs will become mandatory for all sales including those of new homes, from 1 June 2007.

As a practising civil engineer, this could be my retirement business?

just added homepackinfo.co.uk

Released figures for 2002 show 1.59M house sales in the UK.
At the £1000 forecast per home information pack = £1.59 billion, which is more than a $2.5 billion market.
At £500 each pack it ia a $1.25 billion market
. The govt make 17.5% tax = $220 million.
A reasonable retirement target would be 0.005% of the remainder per annum $50,000 or 1/20000 of the market, 80 home packs per year or average 2 per week.
That would supplement the state pension a bit.
