AMC,

You could take the road through the WhoIs, and work through the information to find out with whom you would need to email/call/write/talk to/ telegraph...etc, or you can talk to a registrar whom you trust (nudge, nudge) and they can act as a third party negotiator for you... Either approach works and if you were to need help with it, myself or any of the other Execs here at moniker are very aggressive negotiators. Cheers!

I can only speak to my experience in the business world (more specifically - consumer products); if I wanted to sell a domain name I would go straight to Marketing. Call the consumer service number listed on a product and ask for a Marketing representative - they could be category specific reps or company reps, depending on how generic the term is.

Keep in mind aolt of large companies are contracting out thier IT and using the whois could be painful - IF a direct company contact isnt listed. And I can assure an IT representative would have absoutely nothing to do with pulling the trigger on a domain name.

There is a huge thread on ********.com about this very subject. Probably not allowed to link to it though. :)

Hmm, not even allowed to mention it.
