I notice a good number of auctions on TDNAM.com that feature poor domains, yet they have a single high bid. For example, examplecrappydomain.com will show a single bid of $50,000. Often times, these auctions will have the appraisal viewable, and the appraisal values the domain at very low prices, like $200. I've been trying to figure out who the heck would pay $50,000 for a domain that is not only bad, but is also appraised low.

My question is: do domain owners bid on their own domains in an effort to attract interest to their auction?

This is the only plausible answer I've been able to come up with.

Thanks in advance!

I think the value you´re talking about is the "Asking Price".
This price is a "Buy Now" option, it´s not related to the bids you see on the left.
If a domain has an Asking Price of $50,000 you can still bid $10 and it will count, even if your bid isn´t the highest one.
Hope i was clear to you.

Thanks, Daniel! That totally explains what I've been seeing.
