I have one question about the .asia landrush pre registration. I just pre regged two popular keyword domains with GoDaddy. Will I get them?

If you were sure to get the names, what would be the point of a pre-registration?

Fredo, those which I pre regged were very popular keyword domains. I don't think i will stand a chance to reg them at landrush period.

My point is that we cannot tell you if you will get the names. Did you apply for them with a trademark? If not, usually trademark holders take the best names. That's what happened with the .eu.

I pre regged web.asia which is not a TM. Should I hope GoDaddy will bring me this domain?

Pre registration is not first come first served, especially if it is a popular term you are not guaranteed the domain.

I have read that all Prereg domains will be auctioned to the highest bidder. That is the likely scenario.

I guess use GoDaddy not a good idea for landrush especially if you remember GoDaddy fiasco during .eu landrush..

Can someone confirm if pre reg domains go for auction?

If there is more than on request for a domain then the domain goes into an auction (therefore be sure to pre-reg your domain only at one registrar, pre-reg them at more than one place just gives you troubles and doesn't increase your chances).
If you are the only one during the whole land-rush period (which is in February 2008) applying for this domain then you will get it by the end of that period without auction.

I've been wondering about the same sort of thing.

If a domain is pre-reg'd by more than one person and it goes to auction, is it open for anyone to bid? Or are these auctions just for the people who pre-reg'd the domain.

Also, are you charged to pre-reg? -- Ifso, what happens if you don't get the domain? Are you refunded?

Final question. I'm slightly confused over the .ASIA criteria you need to meet before you can reg a .ASIA domain. Do you need to live in Asia? Or do you need to have some kind of Asian-based company? How would someone like me, (a non-Asian), get their hands on a .Asia domain?

The auctions will be just for the people who pre-reg'd the domain.

That will depend on the registrar you use, the registry doesn't charge the registrar anything if the land-rush registration doesn't succeed (during the current running sunrise period there is a nonrefundable application fee, but that's just for trademark holders).

There is a requirement that at lease one contact must be in the asian-pacific region. There are registrars which can provide you this contact, some charge, with others it's free.

Contact me for a quote if you buy as a reseller.

Just got this mail from GoDaddy:

We currently only allow one person to pre-register a domain name in our system. If a pre-registration for the domain name exists elsewhere, you will need to contact the .ASIA registry for information regarding on who will be the rightful registrant. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

So, should I contact dotasia.org to know if it goes into auction or not?

I think that's your best source to get correct information.

Let us know what you find out.

Em

I have sent them a mail regarding this. Let's wait for the reply.
