Thanks for the direct request for an appraisal.

I have to say that the Latin Market for IDN is not an area where I have any particular expertise, but we could look at few pointers.

AulaFácil actually comes up more than "AulaFácil", but still come up with 34,500. Without the accent it comes up with 91,000 suggesting the term is used both with and without the accent.

Obviously, with Latin IDNs some of the traffic will be lost to the ASCII version, which impacts on its value.

Using the Google Language tool I get "Easy Lesson" in Portuguese, but you'll have to correct me if it has another meaning.

Standard Overture tool gives me 36 results, but this is probably only picking up result from US.

On the Brazilian Overtur Tool I am getting 249 for the term "AulaFácil" but intestingly 34 for "aulafacil com br", which suggests that people are looking for a specific website, which seems to be http://aulafacil.com/

I am not getting any Google Adwords, but I have no proxy for Brazil so that is not surprising. I am not getting any bids on the Brazilian Overture Bid Tool.

Langauge related topics are, however, very big and will grow. I think this is likely to be worth Mid $X,xxx in the medium term.

Best Regards

Richard,

In the IDN world very impressive is a term I would reserve for 100K+ on Overture, as even at these levels there have been ample opportunities in recent months. However, the number of extension searches coming up is extemely interesting. Hadn't appreciated that that this term was also reconignised in Spanish. Of course that more than doubles its potential.

On the negative side, there is much more ambiguity in terms of Domain names than in Japanese and Chinese.

The other problem with the Latin market is that because only a minority of sites will be IDN many developers and SEO companies will just side step them rather than making the effort to realise the full potential. I don't think they will pay a penalty for this as I think in terms of search the accented and non-accented characters are interchangeable and of equal value. In the Far East, if you are not in Local Characters the search results will just not register.

Thanks again Dave. I'm not sure of any TM problems as it seems AulaFácil is quite a popular term in Spain. The Overture with ext seems very impressive in my eyes.

Hopefully the Latin Market will eventually be as popular is the Japanese and Chinese markets.

Thanks,
Richard

It is common for far east overtures for IDNs to be in tens or hundreds of thousands. Two, three thousand is very small for a Korean or Japanese IDN. I would hesitate to register one with a score of less than 10,000.

I just registered 7 Japanese IDNs last night and the combined overture is 300,000+.

I guess because most domainers can easily translate european languages using online translators that work much better for european languages, the majority of european generics have already been registered.

The problem with Latin is that only a minority of terms require an accent and there many translations can be done correctly without IDN. Also many people search terms without the accents. I am also concerned about TM issues, as it is not abundantly clear whether a term with accents is sufficiently distinct from one without to be sure that there is not a potential problem with TM issues.

Some people still use accent, so there is still some value - based on what i found in overture scores.

Talking about big overture, i just hand reg a Japanese 2-char word with an exact match overture of 243412!

Also, reg another one, with smaller overture of 20,000, but with a max PPC of $11 per click. Really crazy.
