First off, I wanted to ask... which domain backordering service is the best?

I think the favorite is SnapNames, but I'm not sure.

How are Go Daddy backorders?

Basically, my question is (from your experiences and knowledge), if all the backordering sites of the world were going after "DomainX", which site would most likely get it?

Pool?

What's the URL for that?

Is Pool > SnapNames?

Edit: haha, Pool.com, I didn't think it'd actually be that.

Anyways, I don't understand... it says something about reserving $60 credit?

Is it like SnapNames or not? (Where, if they get the domain, its automatically yours for $60, or if more people want it, it does an auction, but before they get the domain, they don't touch your money)

Snap, enom and namewinner are good. Godaddy is fine for unwanted drops.

Expirefish is a fraud and I say so publicly every time I can. They will not catch any names and keep your money.

Pool is shady and they banned me for saying bad things about them. I don't trust them and many other people have had bad experiences. They don't catch as many names as they used to anyway so you are not missing anything over there.

Don't buy their .pw domains from their "Domains For Sale" section because no one can own any .pw domain or even build a web site at a .pw extension.

Also, with Pool.com, they have a silent auction so you may bid against yourself when they catch a name that has no other bidders. There are many people who have wondered if Pool enters shill bids to pump up the bids.

Your best bet if u really want a name is to backorder it at all of the above. What good is it if you backorder the domain everywhere but pool, and they catch it?

Yeah, I was thinking about that, DomainNut...sounds like a good idea perhaps.

RSEquin, yeah, i dont even know "ExpireFish" as a site, but just from the name, all I can remember is bad things I've heard about it.

Does Register.com actually drop domains? Or do they re-register them to auction? (I can't find it in their TOS and stuff on the site)

I have a few backorders at GoDaddy, but I've missed ALOT of good names. So this time I signed up at SnapNames, and won it through them, it cost 3x as much, but worth it for me b/c I really wanted the name.

All is Well :)

Good Luck

enom.com
pool.com
snapnames.com

^---- those are the three "giants"

if you want to secure a domain you better place a backorder at all three places.

I agree Mike, but I am still not to comfortable with the whole bidding for a name after you or someone else backordered it. I think that there is alot of room for shill bids, etc, and you don't know who you are bidding against, which could be yourself. But, if you want the name that bad, do whatcha gotta do. :approve:

No one answered my question though, Pool.com says it "reserves" money on your credit card to make sure funds are there, does this mean it takes teh $60 and if you don't win, it returns it? Or what?

I think they check your account, and if it clears, they accept you, they don't actually take the money, but your bank looks at it like a withdrawal, without actually withdrawing the money, if you know what I mean,,,It's kind of odd,,,but alot of businesses do that just to make sure you can pay before you play.
hope that helps,,, and they won't take any money if you don't get the name.

..it's called "pre-authorization" :-)

and no money is withdrawn from your credit card if you did not win a domain

so if I have 100 in my account, and it checks, and sees i have 100 and knows 100 will cover it, but then, the next day I spend 60 bucks and have $40 in my account, does it delete my account since 40 < 60? Or is it a 1 time check?

pool or any other service will attempt to bill your card once a domain is successfully backordered/won.. if your card declines then guess what, you lose out on the domain!

no no no, ill have the funds when the domain drops, that I know, but before that, i mean, do i always have to keep that $60 buffer? Or do they just check 1 time before the bid?
