I would go for the 'good' .net anytime.

it depends how good the .net was, but in that example above i'd probably go for the .com, id say i could sell it for more.

is it, would I buy HDG.net for $1500 or QXZ.com for $3000 (market price)?
is it, which is worth more as an investment if you are only selling to end users?
or is it, what you take if offered hdg.net or qxz.com?

1. if I was buying one, i would buy the 3 letter.net (though they pretty unlikely to sell to an end user, qxz.com should have no chance, in theory at least; unless someone just wants to own a 3 letter.com)
2. same logic as answer #1; I would take the .net because I would have an equal or better chance at an end user sale but at the same time the .net is half the price
3. i would take 3 letter.com (worth double)

The .net has to be pronouceable generic and with relatively high ovt.

So say you can buy a bad LLL.com (ZQX.com)
or a good LLL.net (AET.net)

which one would you choose and why?

if you NEVER have owned a LLL.com, then you'd prolly go with that over the good LLL.net - it's a status symbol in "domainerhood" that some like to wear. :)

as now most of the poorer LLL.com combo's are primarily traded back and forth to other domainers.

the good LLL.net would be my choice...

though from a reselling position the LLL.com would be easier to resell (if both cost $2k each now) at a higher price than the LLL.net

from a collectors position, adding another quality LLL.net to their portfolio may be more important than a quick flip on a crappy LLL.com.

If the price is right (to me and for me), I'd snag them all. They would have to be priced accordingly...what I thought (don't give a damn about any guidelines) the name is worth, the brandability, and marketableness of it.

For a dot com, it can be all subprime letter but if it is priced right I would consider it. It's pricing guides are simply that...guides. If I think I can take it live and brand it, I'll take it.

I was surprised I don't see one of my nets purchased up in the list but that is okay.

In general, isn't .net about 5% of the value of .com? So the .net would have to be 20 times higher quality than the .com, to make them equal value.

Completely depends on the domains in question. A really good LLL.net can fetch serious money, but a really crappy three letter .com can have no significant potential outside of reselling to domainers, so is more firmly stuck to reseller pricing. It is easier to flip an LLL.com and make a quick $1k or two though, flipping an LLL.net you will probably only see $500 profit at most.

Agreed...
Even so-called 'bad' letters will be OK for the right end user. It's just that there may be fewer possibilities.

The first rule of rules... there are no rules ;)

I would say imo of course the norm is LLL.COM worth more
However if a popular combo of letters is on offer for .net & there are many companies wanting the combo, then that would be preferable over a crap combo of lll.com

many examples...
would you rather have abc.net , usa.net, pop.net etc
or qzx.com , quz.com etc ?
