I was talking technically... how is it possible to sell a domain that is the same as another existing domains possible sub domain? That's like trying to sell off a piece of someone elses backyard, no? And how would it be possible for both of these to be set up simultaneously? Am I missing something?

What does everyone think bank.us.com is worth on today's market? I think it's a great name for just about any lending institution. If I can't get enough for it right now I was thinking of developing it to generate some traffic/revenue.

I own some us.com domains of my own. I trust (I'm banking on it) they'll only increase in value. If I were to sell it I'd ask $5 to 15k. As always, pick partners (co-developers) carefully.

CentralNic Domain Name Sells For US$1,700.00 (06.05.2005)

That was almost a year ago so maybe worth more now. I hope to see a jump in the centralnic names as I have quite a few myself. There are still tons of dictionary names left.

considering it's a parked page (with pop-ups no less lol) with 0-1% chance of receiving 2-10 visitors a month... I am skeptical that this "sale" is/was legit... or more so a ploy by centralnic to bring some advertisement to their subdomain scam. (again though, I am perhaps wrong here. Anyone know of a whois source for centralnic domains?)

to me, it is logical that the company that will scam people selling subdomains as legit extentions will have no qualms about "buying" a domain in an attempt to falsely advertise their scam.

I'd like to ad that I'm sorry. I understand this isn't the type of "news" you want to hear about your expensive domain names, and I "say" these things without the intent to diminish any potential sales you may have.. moreso I post to inform you so that hopefully one might think twice before buying one again or in the event another here is searching for information on centralnic they can perhaps gain a little knowledge and instead invest in domains elswhere in an extention that may actually have a resale value to it.

".us.com" is no different than ".co.in", and imo no different than ".co.uk"

well, save for the fact that co.uk and co.in are not corporate entities (like us.com..etc) and that us.com is not a government imposed necessity... you would be right.

I sure wish one of the more "well respected" members here with the tens of thousands of posts to their name would respond to lend some credibility either way. I don't like ruining peoples days with opinions they don't like. But I absolutely HATE companies like centralnic that prey on the uninformed. it really truly pisses me off.

Most of us Centralnic domain owners are fully aware that ".us.com" is a subdomain and not an icann extension and we have taken a calculated risk. For example, I have carefully looked at Centralnic, they have many valuable 2 letter domains and they are making a lot of money from selling their subdomains, I believe that they will be around for the long term. If they are making good money selling subdomains (and they are) they would be crazy to suddenly decide to stop supporting their customers or get out of the business.

If you stop and think about it, buying any domain is a calcualted risk. You're betting that a totally new system to navigate the internet won't overtake domains any time soon (which many companies are working on). Your betting that an enterprising company won't find a way to market keywords so well that they'll effectively replace domains. Your betting that China won't come out with it's own Icann with a whole new set of domain extensions that, with all the anti-americanism going around, could overtake Icann if enough other countries jumped in (until it was shown to be reportedly false, there was news reports that China was thinking of doing exactly that. Honestly, I bet they are thinking of it and I think they would succeed). Your betting that the US won't finally give in to the international pressure they are currently under to transfer control of Icann to the United Nations and that the United Nations (proven to be the fair and intelligent institution that it is (LOL) could do any number of things to make the value of your domains decline. Maybe they'll add many new extensions that will water down the value of all domains or raise the rate of a .com so much that only big busiensses can afford to own them.

Considering these factors, is buying a subdomain from Centralnic really that much more risky than buying any domain?

Lee, look at their list of 2 letter domains for a second and tell me if they don't have a great business plan here. If you owned these domains, wouldn't you do the same thing as Centralnic?
