Banks consistently and frequently hire counsel. When they do, in the industry they are referred to as bankcounsel....

Well, that is one way of looking at it. However, I have been working as a lawyer for over 10 years, primarily representing lenders, and have closed well in excess of a billion dollars in loans over that time. They call me their lawyer, not their counsel.
