beobachten.net. German for watch / observe 38,500,000 yahoo.de results.
I have had this for many years. I would assume perfect for a youtube type site. Anyone help with appraisals'? Also I would be curious if anyone knows of any german .de type yourtube scripts

I believe its hard to sell. Many search results doesn´t autmatically mean its a good keyword for online activities. Also I would always reg the noun.
Beobachter.com or Beobachter.net

In German "beobachten" is not used for watching videos. It's actually used when watching a person doing something or observing certain developments etc. So you cannot use the domain for a YouTube clone.

I actually don't see how the domain could be used in any commercial way and I doubt you will find a buyer for it. My suggestion: sell it cheap, if possible, or simply let it drop.

It wouldn't work well for a voyeur site, either. For that, Germans would say "spannen". I think that is "(to) peep" in English.

As said, there are almost no ways to use the domain for a commercial website.

By the way, you say you've owned beobachten.net for "many years", but the whois says it was just registered last month?

In any case, the domain would be appraised at reg fee by most German domainers and therefore I still doubt that you will find a buyer for it. Verbs are often a tough sale in the German domain market, and .net domains are only the third (!) choice in Germany after .DE and .COM.

Don't you think it would be better to simply let it go instead of investing more money in renewal fees and development?

I wouldn´t say it makes no sense - 'beobachten' is a commonly used verb in german, but, as said, i also have no idea how to monetize this domain - 'beobachten' is used for watching animal behaviour - perhaps some youtube "whale watching" type site...

not to piggyback or hijack this thread, but i wonder what german speakers think of the plural noun form: Beobachtungen (observations)?

i own this as a noun in dot com. no commercial application cries out to me, but i see that the singular version is a developed site in .at (austria). does Beobachtungen.com make sense?

thanks in advance. and sorry, robertz.

'Beobachtungen' makes sense, but the singular noun form 'Beobachtung' would be better. However the problem remains: it would be pretty hard to monetize any form of 'beobachten' cause in general you can´t use it in conjunction with internet, tv, media etc.
The .at site is a detective agency, the .ch (switzerland) is also developed, something about 'Assesment of Children's Behavior'...
Perhaps the detective topic is the way to go... or still the "whale watching" youtube type site ;-)

By the way, if you want to check the translations of german words, i recommend:
quickdic.org
IMO much better than the google, babblefish translation tools
