Please appraise "BlogGangsta.com".

The name, 'BlogGangsta', has SERIOUS MARKETING, SERIOUS ADVERTISING, and SERIOUS MERCHANDISING potential. With the right plan, 'BlogGangsta' would attract attention to the website(s) from a lot of curiousity-seekers from many avenues including T-shirts, media, etc.!

These 'BlogGangsta' domains are also for sale:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BlogGangsta.info
BlogGangsta.us
BlogGangsta.ws
BlogGangsta.net
BlogGangsta.name
BlogGangsta.tv
BlogGangsta.biz
BlogGangsta.org
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

These domains are parked and have a description on the 'Offer' pages (just offered for sale a few minutes ago).

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for reply but I have to respectfully disagree.

I liken domain names in the virtual world to the real estate realm in the real world. It's all about 'location' and marketability.

I own investment real estate (developed), but I've watched the real estate market on undeveloped land as well for many years. A lot of the properties I've scoped out WITH trees that have to be cleared AND that same land had to be prepped for utilities, etc. has on many occasions been worth more (and costs more and has sold multiple times) depending on the location, than developed land in other areas in the same city for approximately the same size.

A broad example, just to make a point here: for commercial purposes, if you've located a nice parcel of land with no trees and it's located on a side street that has virtually no traffic potential but easy to tie-in to utilities (it may be located on a street that dead-ends or on a cul-de-sac), you could possibly pay half as much per acre compared to land located on a main street a block or two away.

Land speculators buy undeveloped land all of the time. The land gets developed when the right buyer is found (or the owner may build and lease when the market is ripe for it). That doesn't mean that the land value is stagnant and not worth more than they paid for it. There's a good chance that the previous owner made a nice profit from that undeveloped land. This happens all of the time.

If one doesn't invest in property in the RIGHT location (or right domain name in the right market with marketing and advertising potential) early on or at the right time, your statement may be correct. But, given the RIGHT domain name, if a potential buyer feels they can get the name out into the public's eye (e.g. catchy or memorable name, a good traffic area, etc.) and there is a glimmer or more of potential upon its development, the value of that 'asset' climbs. Many names have been sold 'undeveloped' to someone who felt it fit well with their vision or objective.

'BlogGangsta' can be developed for one or more of many different big money markets including music (e.g. rap, rock, heavy metal, etc.), fashion (e.g. name-brand fashion styles with the bling-bling), customized cars with the 20" rims and TV in front of the driver's seat, and so on... These same people WANT a name that fits into their target market and garners attention. They want to 'show-off' their wares so they may even want to show 'before and after' pictures and ask blog participants for their feedback. Who knows...

'Potential Commercial Value' is key to any successful implementation of a domain name.

Thanks, though. I appreciate your feedback.

I again, understand and appreciate your point of view but...

With names like "Flickr" and "Youtube", I would have probably said less than reg fee unless I'm just too old to understand what they mean or even what it refers to... :) (I've not a clue even though they're 'developed'...I hope I'm not offending anyone because that is certainly not my intent...)

With names that people can immediately identify with or at least understand or have heard what they are, I believe that puts them into a totally different category.

In this case, "Blog" and "Gangsta" are 2 big markets and are easily identifiable even for those who aren't crazy about either one. Most people DO know what "Gangsta" is be it from the newspapers, TV, magazines, radio, music, many talk shows and commentaries, school discussions, or when you're just out shopping. Major companies are investing $millions into it.

As far as the domain market being very different from the real estate market, you are correct. The 'markets' are quite different. The 'similarities in the underlying principles of buying and selling' was what I was referring to.

It doesn't matter what the asset or item is, buying and selling principles are the same -- the price will ultimately be set based on what someone is willing to pay. What that price is prior would only be a speculation at best and is dependent upon many factors and the people doing the speculation and the data used to make that decision.

For example, I keep reading in many venues how very different the appraisal values are from the various top domain selling companies. This is a natural phenomena. Neither is necessarily right or wrong. But with any item for sale, including in the service industry, price points have to be based on something - normally and notwithstanding, "Perceived Commercial Value" (PCV) which is very subjective. Some companies may not consider PCV at all while their competitor may seriously consider it.

Even as we view the appraisals on this and other peer forums, you'll see for developed and undeveloped domains, large ranges of the 'appraisal'. It is totally a matter of opinion. You'll see for the same domain appraisal, '$0', 'reg fee', '$xxx', or '$xxxx' for an undeveloped domain regardless of the basis. What we cannot say is, there is no "PCV" just because a domain is undeveloped. Looking at the domain sales reports, nothing can be farther from the truth.

If you have more feedback, feel free. I'm kinda enjoying your viewpoint.

Good luck,

Thanks for your reply, dadster.

Wow, I guess I'm chuckling a little that you didn't know 'Gangsta' is a topic. That's cool, though.

'Gangsta' is a multi-faceted subject. It is also at times, a 'socially-charged' societal issue that can, 'occasionally', involve the legal community. On the other end of the spectrum, it can also represent an 'innocent' 'fashion-statement'.

Some wonderful dialogues have surfaced that, at times, can even point out where 'society' falls short of the mark, especially in the economic and educational realms, in addition to issues of racial profiling.

It's talked about in the news, newspapers, TV, magazines, radio, music, many talk shows and commentaries and internet, school discussions, or when you're just out shopping. It's also a 'fashion' by folks in all walks of life (you'd be amazed that it's not limited to one 'group' of people).

Major companies are investing $MILLIONS into it. Believe it or not, a lot of JOBS have been CREATED, directly and indirectly, because of it. I would not be surprised that in totality, the 'Gangsta' image/topic/industry, etc. has generated $BILLIONS in the USA alone! This 'data' is included in our government's employment statistics and 'Gross Domestic Product (GDP)'. Did you know there are even 'Gangsta' ringtones for cellphones?!!!

Here's what Overture shows for Feb 2006:

27211 gangsta
11083 gangsta grillz
10057 star war gangsta rap
4521 gangsta rap
4424 gangsta boo
3621 gangsta layout
2842 damn it feel good to be a gangsta
2723 gangsta girl
2633 gangsta nation
2352 gangsta site myspace.com
2348 gangsta disciple
1888 gangsta music
1646 gangsta gurl4 hotmail.com
1638 gangsta party
1592 gangsta name
1460 gangsta zone
1425 gangsta paradise
1268 im in love with a gangsta
1235 gangsta spongebob picture
1182 gangsta lean
1104 what up gangsta
1011 certified gangsta
972 gangsta spongebob

It's also a 'bid' word.

It's fine that it doesn't do anything for you, especially since you weren't even aware it is a topic. Actually it's a SERIOUS topic, both positively (yes, to a number of people, there are some positives) and negatively.

But...there are others out there who live in this world; or write about this culture; or capitalize on it by buying and selling products associated with it (that even includes the auto, cellphone, garment, video games, shoes, and other industries) to people within that culture AND to other cultures; or who talk about it on TV news, video channels, and radio talk shows; etc.. I don't foresee it going away anytime soon.

Again, it's good to hear different viewpoints...I enjoy the feedback.

Feel free to provide more feedback. :)

Thanks.

I agree in regards to your comments about undeveloped property in the real estate market.

But the real estate market, and the domain market are two completely different fields.

Anything can be branded. Brandability does not equal value. Flickr, Youtube, etc. were all once worthless domains. The only reason they have value now is because they developed, marketed, and advertised.

not arguing, just conversing :)

Agree completely with dvestors. And I also know a bit about the r/e market myself.

What you're doing is taking one popular word (blog) and tagging it onto a semi-popular word (gangsta), thinking that the sum is worth more than the parts.

It isn't.

That's why the domain name blogguns.com is still unregistered. And "guns" is a more popular word that "gangsta".

Well maybe you should just tell the rest of us what they're worth...since that seems to be the point of this thread.

Great point. Then factoring in the double-G and the fact that gangster is actually spelt with ER, I would say the .com is worth regfee, and the rest are worthless.

Good luck with the sales :) I'd appraise them at low XXX, gangsta is slang, personally I don't care for rap, but nice pick. I'm more of a Mafia person :p

I wouldn't register "blogguns.com" either because at the least, in 'hearing' the word, there's not enough of a natural 'consonant break' between the 'gg' to make it clear enough, per se -- to know that it's a blog about guns. Its sound reminds me of words like 'funyuns' or 'snookums'.

"Gangster" and "Gangsta" markets are not exactly the same although there is overlap. Anytime "Gangsta" is used, it is specifically meant to be a play on the word, "Gangster" and is of course, the slang version. Appreciate your feedback though.

"GangstaBlog" is good, but it's not meant to represent the same 'personality' as I foresee "BlogGangsta" representing. When comparing the 2 words side-by-side, the meanings are different. When marketed, it would become even clearer. Look at it from a 'noun' perspective.

~~~~~~
In the meantime, I really am grateful for EVERYONE'S feedback. The info is definitely helpful. I look forward to more... :)
P.S.
Thanks to my well-wishers!
bloggangsta
blogguns
The only 2 phonetical ways to pronounce bloggangsta are:
blah gangsta
blog gangsta
Where's the difference in the "gg" sound?!!!
FYI -
"BlogGangsta.com" now has 'b2evolution' (a comprehensive blog system - http://b2evolution.net) installed. It features the following capabilities: multi-blog; multi-user; multi-authors; and more.
It is not open to the public yet, but I'll update this thread when it is.
There are more features to be added as well.
