Buydomains Now At 250,000+

Last week the "number" of domain names at their site was 225,000. Now it's 250,000. Maybe they're already counting the names they expect to be getting with NRR (WLS)!? :smartass:

I have been watching these goofballs for many months now...

Names that I would not expect to sell for $500.00 - $1000.00 max
they bought for $2000.00 - $5000.00

I have watched MANY names through enom and pool with
outlandish purchase prices on them only to end up the next
day as being owned by BuyDomains

There are some real stupid people out there spending way
too much for domains they will lose their ass on - LOL

I imagine their thinking here is...... when BD owns all the domains, they can set the price at anything they want.

This by itself is a GREAT reason to kill the wls! BD will just run a script on the English language, and place a wls on every possible domain, then the game is over.

Ok, that would be expensive, but look what they are spending now!

agree, but i respect how good they are at getting domains. when pool came out, pool grabbed everything for a few weeks. DB was not getting the very best names directly. now, sure enough, they are starting to. i don't know how they do it. they got optin.com the other day, beating out pool and nw (well, nw sucks now). they seem to find a way to adapt and almost always get the very best names on any given drop.

First of all, many English words will never be dropped, so BD wont wls those. Second, if they already own 280,000 domains, it should be clear that many valuable domains are not English words. If BD put a wls on every decent domain, they would go bankrupt. Here is a link to an opinion piece I did for DNJournal:

You assume they paid those bids? Not necessarily so.

I'd be hesitant to call them goofballs unless you know for a fact that they don't pay reduced rates as a preferred customer, or that they don't piggyback on the system somehow outside of the normal bidding process.

The few times I have talked with them they have been very crafty businessmen. They don't strike me as stupid at all.

Toys.com (dead)
HomeGrocer.com (dead)
IBM (shadow of former self)
Enron (dead)
Accenture (dead)

That's because they couldn't live up to "exuberant" market expectations. BD does not have to satisfy the whims and whines of shareholders on a quarterly basis.

Two things to keep in mind here: The number of quality drops will slowly start to diminish (being grabbed by people like us and then being held in inventory, developed, or sold to an enduser for development thereby lessening the number available) and the number of new people jumping in will inexorably start to increase. Perfect example was yes. drop. Had over 70 names at NW. Almost every single one brought bids over $150. That was a first! I'm not talking about three letter or dictionary words. I'm talking about two word combinations--mostly .com!--that just made sense in terms of the English language. (I had so many to type in at Pool, I almost didn't get the complete list in!) BD is THE market maker, THE 800 lb. gorilla, and THE godsend to our industry because of the stabilizing effect it has had in the marketplace when all else was falling apart.
