I just attempted to buy my first .de domain thru 123-Reg.co.uk and not sure if I've registered the domain I was expecting. Can anyone tell me if .de domains are actually .de.com domains?

Also, when registering with 123-Reg I searched for the domain I wanted and it was available as XYZ.de.com and assuming that is the way the register (with the .com) then I purchased it only to find that the domain that was confirmed on my receipt was XYZde.de.com.

Is this correct? Thanks for any advice.

.de domains are .de domains

.de.com are .com domains (subdomains)

it means somebody else owns the domain .de.com and you can use their subdomain...

its def. not possible to make a fix stat that .de.com is useless, but for sure not a direct competitor of .de;)

i sold a few .de.com`s also very high, but if you want to invest in .de, try to buy very strong keys .de

br
oppo
sex.de.com:)

please show me some end uses of .de.com

Thanks for the advice. I've found another co. to reg the .de that I wanted. But, I've already reg'd the .de.com -- is there any advantage to owning both in terms of value? Or, should I request a refund of the .de.com?

please show me some end uses of .de.com

http://www. schwarzlicht .de.com/
http://www. revolution .de.com/
http://www. slg .de.com/index.shtml
http://www. task .de.com/
....and and and..

but its not necessary to discuss if .de.com is equal to .de, .de is valueable, .de.com is a pseudo-third level, i would not recommend to invest in .de.com for an own project/site, but strong keys are very good dealable:approve:

For what it's worth ... stay well away from 123

i am sure most germans do not know about .de.com
it is very confusing
you will send visitors to the .de sites

Most people don't know about .de.com and, honestly, I don't know any German who would type a .de.com URL into their browser. I've never been to a .de.com website as far as I can remember. I think "oppo" was making the point that those domains are not necessarily worthless a priori, because there could very well be a buyer willing to pay a good price for a keyword .de.com domain. But as has been posted already, .DE is the TLD to own if you're targeting the German market. DotDE domains are also good for investment purposes, in my experience.

I fell for this trap on Network Solutions. They have .us.com .de.com .br.com and all sorts of others and I (and I'm sure lots of people) confused them with .com.br, .com.de etc. Lots of countries use .com.xx for their country as well as just .xx.

Yes as was stated, .de.com is pretty much worthless.

what registrar is good for .de?

i signed up for eurodns but everytime i get a domain push they want me to sign and fax in authorization. pretty annoying...

FYI -- I used hostingireland.ie without any problems.

I appreciate your advice about 123-Reg.co.uk and agree. I attempted to get them to refund my money because they're system is flawed and they refused. I will dispute the charges with my credit card co. and cease doing business with them. WARNING!!! DO NOT USE 123 Reg .co .uk to register foreign domains.
