It really depends on what you mean by "good". When I browse through the HUGE (I mean HUGE) list of dropping .ca exactly a month ago, only a handful drew my attention. I don't even bother wasting my time backordering; instead, I let most of my existing .ca expired. Now, which 5 (five) you like most? :-D

Where do you get that list? I checked a couple of them and they are NOT dropping. For example:

Domain person.ca
Registrant Name E-Gate Communications Inc.
Registrar Lowcost Domains Inc.
Renewal Date 2005/12/31
Date approved 2003/12/31
Last changed 2005/01/11

I'll probably be getting a few .ca names soon, from the same source that nameslave is getting his list from. Not to take anything away from you keshe, but your list seems totally wrong. None of the 8 names I checked are expiring.

I've checked out *that* site (thanks keshe); their data is totally wrong. I guess the reason is that they simply PROJECT a drop date from the expiry AND do NOT update it at all. You can see from the example of person.ca. It expired on 2004/12/31, went into a 30-day "suspension"; that's when they included the domain into their so-called drop list. But on 2005/01/11, the existing registrant renewed it; and they just don't have some good enough logistics to update that.

Some registrars offer EXPIRED domains (which are actually "suspended" and could be renewed in 30 days). For TO BE RELEASED .CA domains, check out CIRA (the official dot-ca registry)'s website:

http://tbr.cira.ca/tbrlist_p

This link is actually right on their home page! :-)

Domain owners like the Thevasagayam's or Paul Anderson of egate (a former cira director) are two of the last people you can expect to see dropping names. Those will get renewed when the time comes.

Anyone know of a registrar that actually allows non canadians to register .ca domains? I've learned of a few registrars that allow for .de registration, from what I understand only actual German residents are allowed to register .de domains, though I've registered one, and live in the US. if I could find a .ca registrar that allowed this, I'd be set.

You can view the requirements to register a .ca domain name at the url below.

http://www.cira.ca/en/documents/q3/...entsForRegistrants-EffectiveDateJune52003.txt

Basically it states that you must live in Canada to register a .ca name. There are a few exceptions but they are limited.

As for registrars that permit anyone to register them I am unsure. All domain owners that purchase a .ca domain go through CIRA and they are the ones who will approve or deny your domain.

Sounds interesting. I feel there are not enough sites/tools that deal with .ca names. I know there not nearly as popular as the big three, but they are useful and have been great sources of income.

So do we get a free account for beta testing the site for you? ;)

There is absolutely no money to be made in .ca domains. Stick to .info/us.

Steen, i'm not sure where your information is coming from but many people make good money on .ca domains. If you haven't then that's unfortunate, but you can't make a blanket statement like that without hearing from people that do make money on .ca domains.
