This may or may not help you
I used to ask for help to instal stuff until someone pointed out to me that in my cpanel there was a thing named Fantastico
Have you got fantastico in your cpanel?
Of course the experts will advise that Fantastico will not always instal the latest version of a script
I don't care because at least I can instal stuff myself now

Yes, go with a CPanel host that offers Fantastico (many if not all do). Alternatively, there are *other* hosts out there that render some One-Click Installs for individual scripts (incl. phpBB, WordPress, Joomla, Gallery and even MediaWiki, etc.) Hope this helps.

Your host should be able to help. Installing phpBB via Fantastico is usually painless.

Yup, I just did it on one of my domains, and saw it installed 2.017 and I just had to update it to 2.018 which is latest and that took less then 5 minutes.

Your host must be using an older version of Fantastico: 2.10.2 r2 (released Nov 10) has already been updated with phpBB 2.0.18. And the newest version is actually 2.10.2 r3 (released Nov 30).
