can this type of name be registered without hassle

i know you can't register
ex: microsoft.com
but, if there was a tld of .ft, could you register mocroso.ft
and can they come after you?
i mean the actual name before the dot isnt theirs, right?
there is a domain, where when you add a certain extension, it makes a known name- BUT- the letters before the dot make a generic word i like- its weird, do you understand?

Interesting question. I'm sure that any large corporation that has an ambitious tm protection squad online would try to present the case that it's the "image" of the word that is displayed they wish to protect, regardless if an extension was needed to complete the "image" of the word. So "microso.ft" could be conveyed to the public as something that may resemble "microsoft" and that would be all their attys would need to prove in court.

This is a question for an atty, I'm not one, and don't construe my answer as legal advice. It's just my opinion from experience.

why on earth would you register "microso.ft" ?
for the traffic? what traffic? your own hits when you check if the site is up?

it was just an easy name to use as the example

This is a problem that exerts much time on domain 'hackers' minds. The preponderance of ccTLD's allows for many such examples.

If you were to register such a domain then my advice as a layman would be to immediately develop a site on the domain, the site should have nothing to do with the company in question (not even their competitors)! It is then a case of the company finding out about the site (that can normally be arranged) and then letting them come to you.

Then the fun and games can begin!

yes - see "main" name is generic- i wish i could use a better example- so they way i want to do it- the company doesnt actually do anything with the generic.
hmmmm- ok lets use this as an EXAMPLE:
the fake company is crumbly.com
i want to do crumb.ly
but, the company doesnt have anything to do with crumbs- see?
but the name i have is very cool to be able to put content up for crumbs.
