Even huge companies can fail to renew their domains. Capital One has just let capitalone.net expire and it is now at Pool auction.

The domain is registered at MarkMonitor, which I thought specialized in not letting a company's domains drop...

Do you think Capital One will try to get it back by legal means or buy it back quickly? Or maybe they don't care?

Yes, they will probably WIPO. But I was thinking maybe they would feel embarrassed by the drop and buy it back quickly before someone (non-domainers) noticed.

Yes, they owned it, and they have .org .biz .info .mobi and .us also at MarkMonitor. That is what makes it a bit strange that it was allowed to drop... But I agree, not worth the hassle.

Maybe the WIPO/ADR decision wouldn't be so certain after all ;-)

It's sad to see people placing backorders and bidding for domains that in the end are neutered and unusable.

it`s a .net , anyone can go after and have a right to it, if Google drops its Google.com does not mean automatically they can have it back, it depends on what use you do with it and the fact that they dropped it its a very bad point on any future claim

worthless domain. its not worth much to the company, and they can easily get it back if they want it.

Yeah.
How much do MarkMonitor charge to let domains drop?

MarkMonitor site says...

With MarkMonitor experts covering both strategic and tactical brand protection efforts on your behalf, your team is free to focus on other critical activities. :uhoh:

Really ? Feel free to bid on it and we'll see :)

Maybe CO did not pay the renewal bill in spite of multiple reminders... one clerk may have thought why pay for stuff that we don't use :)
