changing ownership question

I am going to be buying a domain from someone and the registrar company is domaindiscover they charge $25 and both parties have to sign a form and mail it back and it takes 3 days to go through. Is there anyway I can get around this? Can the current owner move the domain to a different registrar like godaddy? How long does that take? Im looking for the easiest and fastest way to change the ownership over to me, thanks.

Hhmm .. I don't see anyway around it. They still using the old security method using hard copies trancsaction instead of online. I remember way back with NetSol where I have to get a Notary to sign my paper and fax it in along with a copy of my driver license along with my case id (you have to call first to get a case ID before you can fax anything to them) just to change the my name to my company's name.

Yes, and cheaper. but it will take a little longer.

find a registrar that does not charge for transfers and do a registrar transfer before doing the ownership transfer. You'll pay a renewal fee at the going rate of about $10 which is less than the transfer fee, and adds another year of registration.

I like registerfly.com since they have a guaranteed transfer so that if the transfer doesn't work the first time, you keep trying without paying several times. Some registrars will charge whether the transfer works or not, and charge again to try again. Some registrars will also attempt to block transfers to keep you, especially if close to the expiration date.

After you are sure the domain is transferred to the new registrar, you can do an online ownership change without paperwork.

easy way around it - pick your favorite registrar (enom, godaddy, etc...) and initaite a transfer. simple. No paperwork, no mess.
