Well for real cheap ssl you have three choices, free (and not from the misnamed freessl),
at http://cacert.org/ , or sign it yourself, or you can also get the cheap comdo chained root certificates.

If you want a single root, browser reconized CA, I have 5 GeoTrust QuickSSL certs for sale (ev1 sells them for $49 and Geotrust for $149) available for $25 each.

well, depends on the SSL. Some SSLs are cheap when sold for $80, others are junk and not worth even $10. Don't buy chained SSL. Also you might wanna check if they are good only for a subdomain or all subdomains.
