marketing a .ws takes more than genius. It takes a stupid buyer
Well as with all disagreements, one side is right, and the other wrong. Given the fact that one word "Generic" words have higher recall than two or three word names such as "UnusedDomains", or "AngerMISmanagement", I'll take my chances on my customers remembering the .ws part of the name.
btw: IF anyone mistakes my comments about the .ws name as "pumping it up", you might find it interesting that I am a developer, not a "domainer". I'm developing several other domains, such as Anywhere.biz, Protection.biz, Algebra.us, Canoe.ws, Cigar.ws and Retirement.ws
more btw: Is Dnforum.com a type-in name? It's a .com after all.
Answer: Not to anyone who isn't familiar with the site.
"Word-of-Mouth" Marketing by link was how most people found this site. After they visited the site then most people began to "type-in" the name. or put it in their "favorites".
Do not fear if you don't have a true "type-in" name. Most people don't have such a name, where the amount of traffic would be considered "valuable". Anyone not having a .com will want to "optizmize" their site in a way that the ending will be remembered.
Most people who don't get to your site through "type-in" means, get the "404 page from hell" because they couldn't remember "verbatim" the sites name...not from mistyping the "ending". Was that "unusedDomain.com", or "UsedDomains.com", or "UnusedDomains.com? DO you care to take a guess as to how long your customers will stick around to get the name right? About 1.5 tries! (lol)
Clearly if you have a generic non-com name, you can greatly increase your chance of having your customers correctly type-in your sites name by "marketing it correctly":
www.Cigar.ws - Cigar Web Shoppe---the .ws adds a sense of arrogance as well as "Abbreviated Cognitive Recall" or (ACR). ergo ws=Web Shoppe -- Using the non-american version "shoppe" is even part of my marketing plan for this future Cigar site. "Optimizing your Domain" will be a phrase that is going to be heard more often in the future.
