This will probably be reported as one of the top sales of the week.
Talk about JACKPOT! The prior owner appears to have registered the domain in 1996 and waited for a nice pay day. The new owner is http://cityindex.co.uk Certainly this purchase won't put a dent in their wallet.

Congratulations to buyer and seller!

Correction - it sold for 75,000 EUR = $95,658

Still a nice chunk of change.

How many of us would have let it drop long ago?

Quite nice. I love Geo domains and this one isn't even a pure Geo. Just references cities. But is logical. I would place similar value on CityLink and CityGuide.

How many of us would have let it drop long ago?

Exactly!

And how many more are already on their way to buy up as many spinoffs as possible?

Do you guys list domains on sedo without parking there? I wonder if people can buy it without get parked there.

Many would not have seen the potential back then just as most cannot see the potential of the IDN market now. Most domainers, like humans in general in other spheres and markets, exhibit the the intellect and strategies you might expect from a herd of sheep.

Motivates me to develop DrugIndex.com, which was the 2nd domain I ever registered ... I never let it drop, since I figured it would have value someday ... perhaps usable "index" domains will become more desirable now.

Drug Index is a great name couldn't go wrong developing it! I think it still comes down to the simple fact that a domain is worth as much as someone is willing to pay(and sell) In this sale we had an established company with (I'm assuming here) an unlimited budget. These types of companies put their radar on something and BUY IT. Here are some prior sales for similar names.

ResearchIndex com $2,356 Jun 05
DebtIndex co.uk $2,365 Apr 06
FetishIndex com $3,200 Aug 06
BrandIndex com $10,500 Sep 05

Good Luck!

I didn't realize there'd been that many sizeable "index" sales ... thanks for the information ... greatly appreciated :)
