Just registered:

CloudFortuns.com

This might be a good domain name considering the amount of wealth that is going to be generated in the near future.

I presume you meant CloudFortunEs.com??

The only way to capitalize on this name is to actually get up a site with relevant content asap. Yes, there are a ton of people (even on this forum) asking what it's all about.

UnderstandingCloudComputing.com has all the right keywords and sounds authoritative, it has a good chance to rank high with some good content. I will think of doing something with the shorter version UnderstandingCloud.com too.

"Cloud" domains and as a concept do need developing ASAP, although unlike 3D (which is in decline due to lukewarm reception and success of products in home and movies) cloud computing seems like it's going to be a long trend instead of a quick fad, especially with companies like Google and Apple referring directly to clouds in their products/service mix.

In this particular instance, I was referencing a particular domain listed above.

I was also wondering if cloud technology is a fad or going to last.

The idea of moving files and programs to 'the cloud' and off individual devices and networks seems to be the way of the future. Why store all your music on a handheld device when you can store it in 'the cloud' and pull it off as needed? Unless you can't reach the cloud I guess, city people forget that there are many places where you still can't get internet access.

Warning: a recent court decision cites that even single user streams e.g. via the "cloud" of music, movies etc. constitutes a licensed broadcast. In other words, at some point there will be legislation to pay per cloud download.

Presently, more than a fad. I know companies that have laid off hundreds of IT people at their server center (114 to be exact).

This was a consolidation of departments plus an elimination of in-house servers, equipment, etc.

The downside is exactly this - it is another form of outsourcing. Whether the jobs are overseas or next door, the jobs (and services) are being outsourced. In a time when cost cutting measures are on the table, it is making fiscal sense.

I don't think cloud computing is a fad. I view it more as the foundation for the next generation of computing. If you think about it, the cloud way is the next (and obvious) platform for the evolution of computing.

OpenClouds and PrivateClouds were absolute steals. Those are actual products being heavily promoted and discussed in the media.

I don't think cloud computing is a fad.
It's not a fad.

It's an entire industry.

Two more domains that I just registered:

CloudItSpecialist.com

People are so used to saying “ IT “ for computer and Internet related stuff that I think it will carry over to Cloud too. Not too many people really need to know the inner workings of the Cloud in order to be considered a “ Cloud IT Specialist “ they just have to know how to use Cloud based services. As far as how Cloud really works that’s only for the “ Cloud People “ to know. :)

CloudGamingSystem.com

There are already quite a few search results at google for this phrase.
