As long as people continue to associate most urls they hear to be .com (especially .co), this most likely will continue to be the case.

The question I have is, it appears that direct type in traffic has decreased substantially over the past several years, I personally have only had a few high traffic "type in" names to draw any kind of knowledge from, so how much lower a rate of traffic was actually lost considering that people whom simply searched for o.co and o.com on Google where Overstock.com ranks #1?
