Confused with drop process.

It was my understanding that when a domain name entered the redemption period, it was renewed for one year.

However, if I had a backorder on a domain name and it has just been renewed under the REGISTRAR-LOCK status, is the domain name most likely not dropping and my next best chance to register it would be to wait for one year? The domain name was renewed yesterday, one day after the expiration date.

It most likely was renewed. If you want the name badly enough, why not email the owner and make an offer? Otherwise, same thing will most likely happen next year, and you will have to wait yet another year for the name.
