Critter.com. Just purchased this. Paid mid-$X,XXX for it. Good buy? Bad buy? Valuation?

Was planning on developing this, but who knows.

Yeah, I bought it because I'm working on a new genre of searching spiders that I wanted to call a critter. I wanted Critter.com to be used as the homepage of a new search engine. Also, I'm developing a location-based game that is called Critter. I got the name so I could use the site for one of those two things. Do you think it would be low $X,XXX undeveloped or not even that?

It's a unique brand play and a fairly common word. But it may be hard to monetize.

It's possible that this word could be paired up with a specific product or brand. Most of the value will be derived from the sales this word can generate or the brand it can help develop.

mid $xxxx is little too high, i believe! but then, its easy to remember & pronounces fine. So, it needs to be developed well, to make it worth!

Cool. The exact price with fees came out to something like $5,400. I guess branding it is the way to go. Like I said, I already have two major options for the name (and they are actually the reasons I picked up the name). I just parked it at sedo so it will be interesting to see if it monetizes to any significant degree (and I'll report back).

Just an FYI, the Critter game is vaguely similar to frogger (in that you control the entire game with just joystick controls -- no buttons).

You paid a fair price..not really high but not really low..you paid somewhere between reseller and end-user...If I saw the domain in a drop auction I would expect it to go for between 3-5k..it is a very well known word and might be very useful or desirable to maybe a pest control service or the like as people tend to refer to bugs and pests as "critters"..it's a very memorable one word generic .com and these will always increase in value, developed with a site and revenue this domain is worth 3-5x what you paid...

Not a bad buy at all if I do say so myself...and since you have a use for it and ideas for a site then the value really lies in the future, and the future is priceless.

A reaaly cool name. It is a good name for a game, so if you develop the a nice game around it, the site can be worth alot.
I do some search engine related business, it takes alot of time to grow, games take off alot faster ;-)

You bought it with an idea of developing it, so this is when the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" .. Wish you luck on the idea. Sounds good!! and fits very well with the name.

I like it, and think it has potential. That is a fair price. Perhaps a little steep, but then again a single word .com domain that is memorable merits valuation in that price range.

Good name, I think you paid a good price for it. Brandable, memorable, a 1-worder, and Google says, "Results 1 - 10 of about 3,120,000 for critter".

Great potential - I agree with the comments that suggest you paid between reseller and end-user. This is okay as you have plans - realise them and you have a domain that won't hold back your development ideas.

I always wanted to help in making one as I am a good software engineer and can build a spider that just doesn't spider urls, but also ranks them etc... I just never had anybody who wanted to do the same thing nor the name of the bot. What will you program it in?

I like it a lot. Cute name, memorable and it's a recognizable .COM noun. I'd say mid $x,xxx is an acceptable price, particularly if it's the name you wanted for a specific project.
