A couple of days ago i became a platinum member, and after a look through the (great) droplists provided by droplists.net I picked a few domains that I was interested in, im not going to say any that are still available for taking but the one that i was determined to get, www.babewire.com, has been swiftly taken by BuyDomains.com.

a little research into babewire told me it was a film, which also had a toy made for it, babewire.com could have been the one domain that could have made me money, but no.

i checked every hour to see its availability... however my last check, one minute ago told me that babewire had been claimed by the industry tyrants.

should i have snapped it? would it have been worth it?

I wouldn't be mad at them if they got it and you didn't take the necessary measures to acquire it. Never assume a name will drop even if there isn't a snap on it and no bids. I did that the other day. The only time I get upset is when I have used all available resources and cannot get it. It used to be easier in the past to one up them if you got the snap quick enough but that was hard sometimes. Luckily they didnt see many of the niche names that are being registered now as valuable so most of those I got for a reg fee, cheap on namewinner, or through other means. If you want to know if buydomains picked up a name you can go to their website and they usually add it their index almost right away. You can always buy it from them for $2888. :worried:

Yeah, curse all the successful people! Successful people should limit their resources and share some of their success with those that are successfully-challenged!

C'mon now. Did you honestly believe you'd be the only one to see enough potential in the domain to go after it and that by checking every hour, you'd have a chance of getting it?

The drop game isn't worth it anymore. You should find an alternative method of acquiring domains if you want to be successful.

Its not an option. Welcome to the drop catching community, hot, where even typos like dicionary.com will fetch $13k :)

I've lost to Buy domains with a snap, godaddy backorder, dropwizard, naewinner high bid, and Pool all working for me. Sometimes you just can't win. If it's business and computer related dot com drops, buydomains wins at least 90% of the time from the drops I've followed (the other 10% weren't mine either )

Well, except for WinPC.com :cheesy: ...............

WLS may change the domain drop landscape..

Still, BuyDomains owns a huge chunk of the net; they own 300,000 domains.

yeah, being new i still have to get usd to the idea of snapping domains... to tell you the truth i have never tried it because at the moment it is too much of a risk; although now considering the recent $13K of a dictionary.com typo (thanks, mole); i might have a look at the list again.

Please could somebody give me a good place to snap names, and also where i could possibly pay via Paypal.

P.S. BuyDomains also caught kissfever.com which i also was determined to take for myself.

Actually they don't own the majority of those apparently.

im not going to give a link to the movie, because it has adult content, the same as the toy that is related to it... however search on google for it and you will find it...

the babewire name was probably influenced by barbwire... i would mention others(which are funny if you know the film), but once again, not the adult section. :)

Join the club. I'll never forgive them for snatching villagetheatre.com out from under my thumb - I had it reserved at several dropcatchers and still lost it to them.

you pay for success only at pool and namewinner

of course, as soon as the monopolistic pigs at network solutions get wls going, you will pay them for success AND failure. brilliant business model, eh?

I agree that BD and Ult "eat my lunch" alot. But, if it wasn't them. It would
be someone else that is the leader in catching names.

Like most things in life, It's the person with the gold that gets the best.

If I wasn't complaining about BD. It would be Adam, Elequa, Clem, Duke, HioSilver, or
whomever else moved into that leading slot. For 1,000s of years, we have alway complained about the "king of the hill".

And, not to get off on a tangant. But, WLS will not change much of the success of
BD or Ult. It is only changing who is one of the kings. (Verisign will get their empire.
And, Pool/Napoleon is temp. exiled to an island.) (UK members, is this the Battle of Hastings, 1066. Being an old man, my memory of history, is a little rusty.)

The worst thing that could happen to most of the small - medium size domain sellers.
Would be what Duke hinted about a couple weeks ago. That is, major investment groups
moving into this industry.

Please don't say it couldn't happen. It could happen overnite. And, they would make BD
look like a pussycat. So, at this point, be thankful that you know the strengths and
weaknesses of Bd and Ult.

What makes you think they haven't already? WLS is the only small window of opportunity left you have to trawl the system if you are street smart.

Otherwise, you can chose never to play again. It's really getting very expensive to grab whatever is dropping now. Unlike the good ol' days.

Mole, investment groups might be actively involved in the domain reseller industry.
But, I haven't really noticed them.

I am not referring to investors. I am referring to the a structured investment groups like
you see in the commercial real estate, REITS, Investment Trusts, business buyout firms, etc.

It has been implied that BD has some investor packages. But, I can not confirm that.

Richard - more than 1/2 of all names controled by Buy Domains are owned by Investment Groups - Similiar to a LLC - They have used investors for the past several years. We are a direct partner with Buy Domains and market their domains right along with our own and our brokered clients domains. They pool investments at $1 Million and up from what I understand. I would have thought that was common knowledge? Steve

Steve, you have confirmed what I had suspected for a while.
That explains their cash flow advantage.

So, yes. BD is acting as an investment group. However, the type
I was referring to. Was more like buyout groups.

Richard - There is one private investment group that we have worked with of late. They do merger and ipo work. They have a fund set up to take out internet identities, websites and hosting groups. We sold them a small 2,800 client Florida based hosting group last month. They say they are watching the domains industry and have $50 Million to invest. We are working a deal on a smaller registrar that is for sale with them, as we speak. The investment groups are here now and buying every day. One law firm we work with owns over 50,000 domains in their client trust account. Steve
