Correct, it's not really about the name, it's about the areas. I found blocking all china/korea mail servers reduced my spam by a large margin a few years ago.

• ".gov" (government use), with 0.05 percent flagged;

• ".jp" (Japan), with 0.1 percent flagged and

• ".au" (Australia), with 0.3 percent flagged.

I think the reasons for the .info stats are pretty clear.. They're dirt cheap, so a spammer / phisher can reg a whole lot more of them and move their stuff around as they get banned / blocked, etc. Second, it's not as obvious to the average surfer where it's located. Not many europeans / americans will be typing in .hk or .cn addresses anytime soon, so it gives the appearance of being less dangerous to the average surfer.

I just came back from a long trip and the first news I saw on CNN News Ticker was about the Dangerous Web Domains.

These automatic software like McAfee and Norton are an absolute joke and meant to noobies -- these software even flag sites with CJ and other affiliate links as dangerous.

got 500 spam post with tons of links etc on one of my sites in one day.
every single one a .com or .de spam link

have seen .cn spam in my email box but can honestly say never had a .info spam but can guess some spammers get on the 99 cent thing and use for a year then drop

.info seems to be popular with spam-bots for vbulletin or for an MSN worm that registers random 10 letter .infos.

.biz seems the big spam email one for me though.

Using blackholes.us for that one, cn-kr.blackholes.us to be specific.

Depends on the mta you're using as to how to use it (them), but with qmail, its -r cn-kr.blackholes.us in your /var/qmail/control/blacklists file.

I also like spamhaus.org, spamcop.net, and uceprotect (level 1 & 2). Be careful about using the really aggressive ones (spews for example), they can have a lot of false positives. Just google "spam blocklist", or "dnsbl" for info. Note it is a *blocklist*, not blacklist, technically speaking.. Also, I would suggest http://www.qmailtoaster.com as a great repackaging of qmail. very active mailing list, and helpful people.

Australia and Japan both keep a pretty tight lid on the usage of their ccTLDs.
You have to have a registered business in either of those countries to qualify for their ccTLD (or purchase through a registered business that then passes it on to you)

Too funny... But you can still easily be charged with "indecency in public" style offences.
