With all the hype (purely) I'm ready to invest in .mobi if I can find one that makes sense. I can't see those two mentioned above as working at all. What am I missing Pred? Just because some keywords have high overture counts doesn't mean they would work with a cell phone, no matter how fast some 14 year old can type them into a keypad. Can you tell me why anyone would need to type in debtcollector.mobi on their cell phone? Can't see these going anywhere but into storage for a couple years with your submarine.mobi etc. names. I'm trying hard to find the humor in this giant waste of money.

Stocdoctor,
all the views for & against have been given a few hundred times on this forum, so i'm not gonna go through them again.
We can safely say you're against them, we get your drift.
If you're serious about getting into .mobi, the boats probably sailed, although there's plenty of resellers who will offer you a good price i'm sure. :greenwink:
I'll be sure to update the .mobi sales thread over the coming months.
As for debtcollector & why someone would type it in....
For the same reason they would type in attorney, solicitors etc
Why wouldn't a landlord exasperated at his non-paying tenant look it up on his cell , in his car, or on a lunch break?
Not everyone's got a pc, but they have all got a mobile/cell.
Cheers,
Pred:frog:

This is an interesting point of view, and I just noticed your UK flag. Location is probably the key to any discussion about this particular phrase. I totally agree with Stocdoctor about this phrase, which is why I went for something like "PopRock.mobi," but in other parts of the globe such as the UK you might be right as rain. On the money. Totally right on, for all we know.

As a for instance, one of the words you mentioned, "solicitors," would be more or less completely alien here, straight out of Area 51.

Hmm, just checked - Area51.mobi regged. Imagine how much fun that one might have been.

Would the UK equivalent be something like "straight out of Stone Henge" perhaps? Hmm, that one regged, too.

I'm not against .mobi, rather I'm against wasting money on stuff that I can't see how it's gonna work. To me a lot of the fundamental problems haven't been answered as to why the extension would make much sense overall. For example, it seems that it's own success and acceptance would work to force the web industry to employ the alternative /mobi sub. (no pun intended with your submarine.mobi)

But - What I see with .mobi that may make it attractive (at least on a short term basis) is all the hype. In my business (stock mkt analysis) that's known as technical value and momentum. So for certain keywords that someone is likely to key into a cellphone (like hotels or maybe pizza) I can see the potential driving the trend, and I'm a buyer at under market. I've learned a long time ago in my area to "not fight the tape".

I think that has a lot to do with it. In the US far fewer would ever consider "searching" for something like a debt collector on their cell phones. Rather they'd just wait till they get home on their pc, where they can comfortably display much more. I'm not low tech, but I had a cellphone for a couple years and then decided I didn't need it. That happens to be the attitude of a lot of the US, so the term "solicitor" might have a better shot than "attorney" after all.

As Pred said, I may have missed the boat already. I don't think so, but if true, I'll just take the next one, or build my own.

Hi Stocdoctor,
thanksfor your comments & everyone elses. I apreciate the input.
Make no mistake i don't see it as cut & dried. There is an element of make your money & get out in my mind with this extension.
Who knows though, in 10 years it may just be the mighty .cm & .mobi left standing. LOL
Unlikely, but this is the beauty. We're flying by the seat of our pants at present & i'm enjoying it.
The point is, .co.uk,.info & .com make up 90% of my portfolio, so i'm covering my bases.
For what it's worth though i thoroughly respect you & Acroplex as domainers & it should amuse you to know , because you two are doubters it does trouble me! I am going with my instincts & the information i have though.
It is possible that in 2 years time .mobi could have burnt out as the general public may have access to cheap devices/cells that can access all websites easily, & that they realise this.
However, lets go once again on the backers, the forthcoming reserved name sales, auctions, promotion, all to come. A 'collapse', if it ever happens ,IMO would not happen for some time.
Back to the domain/s in question, the other point i made is all extensions are gone, even the .us, org.uk........
I will update this when/if i sell it.
Anyone with a ray of light? All angles welcome! LOL
Seriously though, you are all respected domainers & i do weigh up what you say.
Thanks,
Predator

predster........ $500ish........

as there are a number of whitehat / blackhat votes on the .Mobi at the moment it is maybe making the "price" nominal..... but..... as an indication.....

text/sms messages.... back in 1998/9ish everyone moaned, complained, whined that it was never going to catch on, it was too expensive, oh i will never be bothered to type in a message on my mobile to my mom etc..... then 5/6ish years later......... uk sends 10,000,000 texts a day on the 7 networks.... DOH! everyone then says "WISH WE HAD GOT INTO TEXT/SMS BUSINESS, WE WOULD HAVE MADE A FORTUNE".... well most did not, we did and did $ well..... now it is a loose example but at the time we........ like you have stated were "having fun" and "risking the moment"...... .Mobi is like, similar, not the same so do not flame us, it is risky, but it is fun at the same time...... we have an extensive digit and meaningful number of .Mobi's, we HOPE that are instincts are correct (ish!) and that out of the "3 times and growing amount of mobile phones round the globe than, there are PC/PDA's etc" that a few of those people will type in, on their "WORLDWIDE" and "SAME AS EVERYONE" around the world keypad the odd, 77773399 if they do we will be happy.......

so we sort of support .Mobi and debtcollector/s has a EUROPEAN value at the moment.... it could have a WORLD appeal at a much later date, thus making the investment a good one.....

the only issue with "longer" type in .Mobis (as pointed out in another thread by a DNFU) is that google.mobi then what you are looking for "may" be quicker..... as for us.... we are in no hurry.... so if we were looking for a "debtcollector" in "europe" would use it..... so could be worth a few bob Preds

i believe the mobi domains that will work best (or rather the ONLY ones that will work) are game type sites, IM-stuff, email, etc.., and none of them is gonna be a great keyword domain...along those lines..I think the guy that spent 200k on something like flowers.mobi should fire his marketing guy...actually I wouldnt be surprised if behind some of those big ticket sales there is the mobi registry itself to stir up some PR..and look what it did...people think they reg some 2 word .mobi and think its worth $xxxx the next day...
