Sorry, in the biz, we say "pull" focus. Or if we want it a little out of focus, we say "soft".

I have no doubt its a word, but you said it was a well known photography term.

It's not.

we say , make that "softer", or "out of focus".

Defocus is the term used to describe the background and foreground blur in a photographic image.

An important consideration, especially if you do a lot of portrait work.

Nikon has developed what they call a "DC" lens with "DC" rings to help gain more control over this effect.

Even though it's kind of a vanity name, I like it, and I think it's memorable. But, it's not generic enough not to require a lot of promotion.

I would say its worth the reg fee, but that’s about all. Even though it is a word, it has a negative connotation to it.
