deleting domain, expiry extended?

Does anyone know how the whois can show what I'm quoting below?

How can something still be pending delete if the expiry is a year away?

it's really strange - a .info I'm checking out is also showing similar whois details.

Can't buy either yet because they aren't available.

But do you think there's another explanation?

(other than they've chosen to delete the domain names).

The domains aren't that great, but I was just curious about this!

anyone else any ideas on this?
