All depends on where the name is registered. I've seen stories of someone getting a domain from a Godaddy backorder before any of the big drop catchers.

I'm talking about hand regging the name.

GoDaddy's names will not drop immediately. Once expired they will be auctioned on TDNAM.com. If the name does not sell there then it will be available to register. Your best bet would either be to backorder through GD or wait till it goes to TDNAM and buy it from there.

I picked up shoes.org with a desktop program. I assume dropcatcher services were going for it. (sold a few months afterwards for $xxxx)

Picked up a lot of good .infos which had bids on when dropcatcher services weren't very good at getting them.

This was all at least 2 years ago. Things have changed since then.
