A person could make a living on a domain name like news.net
I would hardly call a domain name like that 'inconsequential' or
'intangible'. The money the new owner will make with it will
be very real. Domains are the real estate of cyberspace and
that was a prime piece of land...

I get sick of this kind of comment from people who have little or no understanding of economics. The wealth in any economy is made up largely of asset values. Paper money only accounts for a tiny percentage and even then in theory it is backed by assets such as gold.

If people spend money on domain names that money isn't lost to the economy as though it goes down some black hole. The over all size of the pot swells as an asset is created from fresh air. That money can then be redistributed throughout the economy and is. Some of this money almost certainly ends up going to good causes, but not generally as a result of bleeding heart liberals spreading their poisonous nonsence on this site.

The higher the prices, the better for the whole domain industry. I will not bag anyone that buys a domain names at that price or even more, I would say thank for adding value to this industry.

I couldn't agree more with you. Domains really are the "real estate" of cyberspace. It's how people find companies, individuals, etc. Just like how people and business have a unique physical address, having a unique domain name ensures the ability for them to be found online.
