I'm thinking about setting up a few proxy websites, and was looking for a little bit of insight. Is it worth even getting into? Or should I just continue on my current path of mini site development? If it is something worth looking into, can someone recommend a reliable hosting plan?

Is adsense permitted on proxy sites? I have seen it on some sites, but am curious if it is within the adsense TOS.

Thanks,
Jarrall

Proxy and proxy list sites are saturated market. I would not suggest you getting into it at the moment. But as every site can be profitable if you invest $ and efforts so it still depends on your decision.

If you wanna start one, I would suggest you focus on U.S and EU traffic, and ban the Iran traffic from the very beginning.

Adsense is allowed on proxy site, simply put it on site main page, but NOT on the proxified pages.

Some tips:

1. Glype is a great script to start with.

2. Start with a reliable proxy hosting, I was with tmzhosting.com, very satisfied with their service. It costs from $6/month (it seems they have increased the price to $9.99 now).

3. When traffic increased and the shared proxy hosting can't work smoothly, you should buy a dedicated server.

4. Build or buy an active proxy users community or something like a Yahoo Group to advertise your proxy network.

Good luck :)

Proxies can make a decent amount of money if you properly promote them / have a lot of decent earners / monetize them appropriately. Although, I wouldn't bother getting into them because the market it pretty saturated currently - mini site development is a stronger option to earn money through.

Adsense is permitted on proxy sites. You can only have Adsense ads on "your" pages though aka the main page. Adsense ads on proxified pages is against Google's TOS and will likely get your account banned.

I have a decent size proxy network and it makes me alright money. Like others have said before, you can only put adsense ads on the index page. I highly recommend using adversal on your proxified pages. I make more money from adversal than I do from adsense on the main page. If you have the traffic if converts really well for the ads on the proxified pages because thats where the use spends there time.

Proxy traffic will slow down a good bit in about a month when all the kids get out of school. This is a good time to start new, fresh proxy networks and also promote your current ones so you can be ready when school starts back!
