Do we really care about brandability when it comes to SEO domains?

I wanted to know if we are supposed to think about brandability for domain names with high search volume keywords.

Example: kitchenrugs.com

That is not brandable. Brandable would be something like:

SPLUNGE - we sell kitchen rugs.

kitchenrugs is an exact match domain. Although these can be used nicely to create affiliate/wholesale stores, or resell to a developer, you won't find people branding on them.

Ebay is not called auction
Google is not called searchengine
Microsoft is not called overbloatedslowandbugriddensoftware
Apple is not called phones
etc

It could be in rare cases like Hotels.com, but branding comes from you going to spend advertising to get the user to come back to the site more than once and buy at a later date, so a repeat buyers, so in that way Hotels.com did create a brand, but most sites like Candy.com rely mostly on the search engine and type in traffic.

Hi

keywords with high search volume, don't need brandability

life insurance is highly searched keyword, but nobody brands it.

they use another word or parts of the keywordword/phrase (Geico,AllState/StateFarm,etc.) to associate the service around it,
and those words, made-up or not, become the brand.

imo….

Thank you all for the guidelines, it is really a pleasure to learn from older and much more experienced domainers. ;)
