Do you trust the USA TV News Report?

To which extense they mislead US citizens for their own benefit?

All media in general express the views of the people paying the bills or the government world wide.

The US news isn't run by the government but we do have things like the FCC to "protect" us from things like swear words, images that may be too disturbing (someone being killed etc..) etc..

I do not think our government tells the news what to say, the news agencies themselves do a fine enough job themselves, especially the larger corporations (CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews etc..).

But, it isn't as bad as many nations in the world where the government controls the media and blatantly lies about "news" (example, Iran "news" stating the holocaust never happened).

Note: We do have some news programs that openly speak out against our government, the faults, and issues that our government has.

I agree with draggar.

I will add that while I don't believe the government controls the media, the media in the USA has shifted to providing an entertaining Jerry Springer version of news reporting.

Fox News is the most brilliant at this, while MSNBC is close behind. CNN, IMO, has gotten better recently. All of them express views towards the specific people they target, and those people in their demographic generally trust them as a source.

In the end, don't read any of them. Go to news.google.com, and scan a variety of international less dominating sources.

Generally, if it would make the government look bad, the big guys don't report on it. Its not in their best interest, easier to lie.

The numbers of examples I have for this are staggering. The numbers of examples anyone can look up and read on, on their own, are also, staggering.

I don't know if Canada is doing much better in that regard either.

I don't think that is entirely accurate (at least here in the US, I see your Canadian flag, too, so it might be different there). It's more towards the people who pay the bills (advertisers). You almost never see a major news corporation (or any if you really want to look at it) report bad news about any of their major advertisers.

News agencies here are very quick to jump on our (the US) government and call them out in a negative way. All we here on the news about the war in Iraq is people killed, terrorist attacks, bombings, etc.. we never get to hear about the new hospitals, companies, TV stations, schools, etc that have opened.

if you want to know who runs tv news

look at who are the "executive producers" in the credits.

on a higher level

look at who owns the tv stations.

these owners have an interest in, and the control of what gets on and what does not

the U.S. political climate surrounding the iraq war has shown who is independent and who has ties to Bush.
who is brave enough to speak out and against the bush agenda, without fears of being labeled as "unpatriotic"

This story seems like a no-brainer. Dog "attacks" a worker. The state of New Jersey and their media are so f-ed in the heads that a lot of times they're more concerned about protecting criminals than victims (Megan's Law, anyone?).

The story began last summer when Congo mauled a landscaper working on his owners' property. The dog's owner said the landscaper, who is an undocumented alien, did not follow directions and inadvertently provoked the dog.

OK, a Save Congo blog, but still...

1- Congo was on his own property when the attack occurred;

2- the person Congo attacked (a landscaper on the property where the attack took place) was not supposed to be where he was at the time, was advised to stay in his car, knew that the family owned six German shepherds and that he was afraid of them, and that Congo was always kept inside when they (the landscapers) were working before;

3- Congo had absolutely no bite history; and

4- Congo attacked the landscaper only after he (the landscaper) grabbed Mrs. James to stand behind her when he saw Congo (in other words, when Congo had all the "right" to believe Mrs. James was being attacked).

There are so many reports that the worker grabbed the wife causing her to fall on the ground or he tried to use her as a shield *and* he did not follow instructions. The dog acted like any good German shepherd would have and saw that one of his pack members was being attacked (in their eyes) and tried to defend them.

No, the government didn't make them report this but they used the media to push forward their own political agenda and rally in support for stricter guidelines for owning dogs.
