Does Pool.com sell names direct outside of scheduled auctions?

Anyone else here notice some auction names at Pool.com never actually go on auction, and seem to get sold direct?

I have seen this happen several times lately, including a popular geographic city/county name with high Suggestion Tool numbers with the extension. I wanted it big time and was willing to pay a lot at auction. But oddly, it never went to auction as it should have.

A few days later I checked Whois and the name was newly reg'd to an end-user firm (travel agency) who specialized in travel reservations to that vacation/geographic area in another state. It still had the Pool.com nameservers listed at the time.

It's appears the travel agency purchased the name from Pool.com outside of the auction so Pool cancelled the pending auction and sold it directly to the agency. There seems to be no other explanation for that happening as it did.

Lifestyles of the rich..... just a peek :)

I've noticed some other weird trends but I am verifying it before I say anything.

I dont know. I had a few 3 character ones suddenly show in backorder as having had a year added on the day after it was suppose to catch them.
whois showed pool.com in the nameserver info.
So, I was wondering If they did catch it, why did it not go to auction???

Anyway, that's not much proof, and I didnt keep a databse of the names.
Also, 31.net seems to have been baught directly by BD?
STrange, I had it on pool, they never caught it. I thought BD would have gone through one of the name catchers and not directly...?

BuyDomains can pretty much have their pick of any domains they want now. There are smaller daily drop lists and they not only can outbid us all everywhere else, but use their own private connections to fine tune. Satan can be a lot of places at one time, but at least he's not omnipresent and some names fall down the shoot ever so often with some luck.

Has anyone noticed any new domain registrations that appear to have dropped and been picked back up....without a record of them on pending delete lists?

RealNames is it possible that you forgot to add the name on Pool?

Of course it can. He who controls the lists controls which names people are going after... think about that one for a sec.

Then consider why I am planning on generating my own :).

I have never trusted ANY drop-list service. I have been generating my own lists for almost 3 years now :-D

Each list service will have a few different names for each set period of time, due to the difference in the times they check the zone files, but most domains will show up in a majority of the lists, and only one company controls the complete list that is provided to all of the list providers out there. There are too many daily lists to think that someone could conceivably keep a domain from showing on all lists, unless this someone were in control of the zone files, which only one company is.

True, but I suspect there are much fewer people generating lists than it appears. Exody seems to be one of the big suppliers, for instance.
